Meet Brutus, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who plays a starring role in a new exhibition of works by York sculptor Sally Arnup.  Sally, from Holtby, said she was commissioned to produce the sculpture by the animal's owners, who had given permission for it to go on display at the Blake Gallery, in Blake Street. Brutus is one of about 25 of her bronzes which are to be shown at the gallery between October 22 and November 5. She said she spent several months, on and off, creating Brutus, and it proved quite a challenge.

For a start, she decided to work with him sitting in her studio, rather than simply using photographs, because it meant she could see him from all angles and end up with  a better sculpture. There was the difficulty of representing his long, fine and light hair with heavy clay material. Sally said the exhibition would also feature ceramics by her son, Ben, and ceramic bowls by her daughter Hannah.
